HERE IS MY MOVIE GRADING SYSTEM:
1. “don’t bother": its just plain bad... if you happen to catch it on TV in a year or so, you may want to consider changing the channel.
2. “wait for DVD": its worth seeing, just not worth spending a lot of money on
3. "check it out for kicks”: I liked it, but I don't know if anyone else will... go see it if you have the time, the money and the inclination
4. “see it if you like the actors/subject matter”: the movie as a whole may not be the best, but it if you like the actors and/or the subject matter of the film, you may want to check it out
5. “definitly see it in the theater”: The movie was pretty good. Worth spending the time and money on to see it in the theater
6. “do whatever you have to: go see it asap!” I LOVED it! A great movie. There is at least one aspect of this movie that is so good, everyone should at lease give it a try.

Splice: Don't bother
Splice begins as a film about the dangers of science reaching too far and ends as a bad horror film. A scientist couple learns how to combine or "splice" DNA from several different animals to create a new species. They feel they are ready for the next step: adding human DNA, but their benefactors are more interested in the protein created by the already developed organism. Surprise, surprise… the scientists decide to splice the human DNA into the mixture anyway. The resulting being pushes all the boundaries of science and makes you think about the morality of scientifically creating something new, just because you can. Unfortunately, the movie attempts to show a “worst case scenario” of what may happen when messing around with nature by bringing in child abuse, sex, adultery, incest (of a sort) and even rape! This movie had the potential to be a mediocre cautionary tale. Instead, it became a mockery of itself, leaving the watcher feeling dirty and disgusted at the end of the film.
The predictable plot had holes the size of tunnels that the scriptwriters either did not notice or did not care enough about to cover up. However, the most disappointing piece about this film was Adrien Brody. An Oscar award winner for best actor (The Pianist 2002) in a movie of this caliber is just a crying shame. Oh how the mighty have fallen! It is difficult to discern whether he did the best he could with a horrible script or whether he just went through the motions because… he needed the money… he didn’t care enough... either way he will definitely not win an Academy Award for this performance… maybe a razzie.
THIS ONE IS DEFINITELY "DON'T BOTHER"

1st post: KICK ASS
I thought this would be a great start... a play on words, if you will. I went to see Kick Ass over the weekend. It was AWESOME!!!! It had a feel of a dark comic book movie, like Sin City, but in the guise of a typical super-hero/coming of age teen movie. I loved the fact that the would-be good guys, were actually just as bad as the criminals... with the exception of the altruistic lead.
There were many lessons to learn and they were learned by the characters the hard way... another plus in my book! So, who else saw this? What did you think? I'm dying to know!
